Hello everyone, welcome back!  Do any of you have any exciting plans for the weekend?? Michaela and I are heading to New York again for some beach and family time, so make sure to follow along on Instagram and Snapchat (@chummer17).

I love pairing together colors close on the color wheel, and blush and red are no exception.

Ruffles for Work

IMG_0079IMG_0043IMG_0069IMG_0070IMG_0059IMG_0047IMG_0072

Hey everyone, welcome back!  Today I’m talking about ways to wear a ruffled skirt to work.  I am 100% on board with this trend, and a skirt is my favorite way to incorporate it since I tend to favor a t-shirt or classic blouse over a trendy one.  I’ve worn this skirt in the past with t-shirts, and today I chose to wear it with a white button down, which instantly made the skirt look chic and professional!

Muted Red, White, and Blue

IMG_9754IMG_9759IMG_9747

Hello everyone, welcome back!  Today I’m sharing an alternate way to wear red, white, and blue for the Fourth of July weekend, or really at any point during the summer.  I love this combination of burgundy and dusty blue to allude to America’s colors, but it’s less expected than bright red and cobalt may be.  It’s a great way to incorporate the festivities into your work attire the week before!

Sun Dance

While celebrities and influencers were posting snowy and picturesque Instagrams over the past week, I was just happy to tango with the real sun back here in Mass.  It might be a little seasonally premature but I was so excited to have a few days wear I could wear these pieces I picked up at the mall this month.  You all know I love a good leather skirt (this post is one of your all-time favorites, and my favorite midi skirt has been worn here, here, and here), and this forest green color is such a pretty alternative to black.  I can’t wait to find new ways to wear this pretty blouse; I think it would look great at a seaside restaurant with white jeans and a pair of espadrilles in the summer!

Tan, Pink, and Navy

IMG_0694.jpg

This tank and jacket combo was one of my first purchases from White House Black Market five years ago.  I vividly remember my parents taking me there for internship pieces (first my dad when I needed a suit, then my mom for daily professional wear).  I loved this combo so much as an 18 year old that I wore it to work, then with jeans on Thanksgiving, and I even wore it out on a Saturday night in college with a tweed skirt.  Which is maybe not the best example of asking a business school student what to wear on a Saturday night, but it does speak volumes about White House Black Market pieces and their timelessness.  I think they look just as good today as they did five years ago.

Emerald

IMG_0331 IMG_0382 IMG_0354

Pairing a bright jewel tone (such as this emerald) with classic black is a favorite bold option of mine.  Black keeps the look anchored in professionalism, with closed toe heels assisting the conservative vibe.  Add in some bold eyelet, patterned heels, and crossover front styling and the look suddenly has a bit more of a personal style element to it!

Blush and Orange

IMG_0445IMG_0447

I keep bringing back blush items over and over again this spring, and for someone who has historically never worn a ton of pink it seems rather strange.  Blush is so versatile and just soft enough that it doesn’t overpower the way a cotton candy or a bubble gum pink might. This skirt is such a soft and muted tone that it lets the orange top do all the talking, but I think it would be just as fun of a look with a more saturated pink skirt-who doesn’t love a good burst of color in spring?!

Cobalt

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  It was so gorgeous out in Boston this weekend I had a perfect Saturday walking around the Seaport, finishing the day with a stop at my favorite Mexican place, Rosa Mexicano.  It was so nice being able to walk outside comfortably without winter clothes on!

Cobalt is by far one of my favorite colors to wear.  It’s bright and vibrant, and yet appropriate for any situation.  As promised, these circus inspired frames from Warby Parker’s spring collection add the perfect touch of excitement to any outfit, even a standard professional look like a white collared shirt and black pencil skirt!

Le Rogue et El Noir

Besides being one of my very favorite 19th century novels, red and black also make for a classic and fail-safe holiday combination.  I love incorporating them into my every day wardrobe during the month of December to keep the spirit alive- especially since any day has the possibility of turning into a festive celebration after work!  As someone who loves remixing and rewearing clothes, I’m not a huge advocate of buying a red sequined dress you’ll wear to one holiday party and then never again (at least for another twelve months).  Instead I opt for the classic combination of red and black, which flows seamlessly from work to happy hour and is seasonally appropriate with just a touch of gold accents (or a decadent amount of gold accents, if that’s your thing).  These are two of my favorite black and red outfits, with pieces I’ve worn plenty before and I know without hesitation I will wear again.

Election Day

Election Day Outfit | The Sol Compass

Happy Election Day, America!  Today’s look was inspired partly by today’s elections and partly by the 2016 Presidential Campaigns, but mostly by Mellie Grant and her bold tendency of embracing of America’s colors.  Red, white, and blue is one of my all-time favorite color combinations, so I love any holiday that creates an opportunity to wear them.
