Simple Fourth of July Outfit

IMG_9552IMG_9535IMG_9551

Hello everyone, welcome back!  Today I’m sharing a simple and easy outfit for the upcoming weekend.  If red isn’t your color, or you favor yourself a less festive dresser, this outfit is perfect.  I am beyond obsessed with the cute details on this top, from the buttons to the pleats and the hem!  The color goes great with any number of items (you may remember I paired it with these lemon shorts here), but I love the way it pops against all white.

Love At First Stripe

Happy Hump Day!  Today is the second outfit post of my sister trip to Nashville.  While I was on the Abercrombie & Fitch website searching for this dress, I found this striped shirt and instantly fell in love with it.

Nashville has these B-cycle stations all over town.  They are a great and affordable way to get out and explore more of the city than you may have been able to on foot!  The best part is you can just drop them off at whichever station you end up at, which is super easy since they seem to be everywhere!

The Parthenon is possibly best known amongst those my age and under from its cameo appearance in Percy Jackson, but it is an incredibly impressive full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens.  It’s situated right in the middle of the beautiful Centennial Park, a place I could spend days in with ease.

Navy and White

img_9711img_9715

When I first wore this blouse I mentioned that I couldn’t wait to wear it with white jeans.  Well, true to my word, I really couldn’t wait to shoot this nautical combination, even if it is a tad early.  I also wanted to make sure I showed you all how the blouse paired with pants while it was still in stock!  I chose to slip on these blush flats I have been loving, but if I waited until Memorial Day I would probably pair it with some navy espadrilles and a red crossbody bag.

Signs of Spring

img_9697img_9689img_9679

Welcome back everyone.  I hope you all had a great weekend!  It was so nice here in Massachusetts that I decided to shoot some spring inspired outfits – even though I’ll be back to boots this week!

You all know I love pairing red and black together, and would normally add these leopard heels to that easy color combination.  That reason is why I love them paired with white jeans even more – it’s much more unexpected!

Splash of Bordeaux

img_5851 img_5842 img_5864

Welcome back!  In today’s post I wanted to put a spin on this jacket that I traditionally pair with navy or black (like I did a year and a half ago here).  I’ve also been challenging myself to find fresh ways to wear white after Labor Day while looking seasonally appropriate, like I did in this post last week.  A white top on white bottoms is a great way to accent another color, such as this seasonal favorite bordeaux.

Light & Bright

IMG_0289IMG_0258IMG_0292

At the first sign of warm weather I dove headfirst into skirts and dresses; forgetting that early spring generally just means jeans and a top without a jacket.  Mother Nature was sure to remind me how overanxious I had been this past weekend, bringing the temps way back down away from the low seventies I had been enjoying so much a few weeks ago (sad face).  My coping method has been to keep the jeans and sweaters going strong but incorporating more seasonally appropriate colors like this blush and white combo.  Nothing is as good a mood booster as a light and bright outfit on a sunny (albeit chilly) day.

Black and White

IMG_0197IMG_0209IMG_0234

I absolutely love the process of getting dressed in the morning.  Pairing items that that create a cohesive look or mixing different types with a coveted juxtaposition alike give me a tremendous amount of joy every week.  Creating outfits is one of my favorite activities (and a fundamental propellant behind this blog).

However, I’d be lying if I said there weren’t some days when getting dressed made me want to pull all of my hair out.  Sometimes I’m in a rush, others the creativity just isn’t there, and sometimes I swear I have “absolutely nothing to wear” (which couldn’t be further from the truth).

On these days, black is my savior.  Does black ever not look chic?  I hardly ever go the all-black route.  In the winter months, this means lots of black and red combos.  When the weather starts to turn a bit warmer though, it means incorporating bright whites into ensembles to add some much needed contrast and positive vibes.

I’ve mentioned that my dad is a man of distinguished taste.  Any time he gives me the stamp of approval I know I’ve found a winning item.  You’ll never catch my dad wearing what everyone else is wearing, and the clothes and shoes he likes are almost exclusively statement pieces.  When he gave me the coveted stamp for these Topshop espadrilles (and my favorite TOMS) I was elated-what’s better than a stylish pair of flat shoes that are easy to walk around in?! As if I needed another excuse to wear these all spring long…

White and Blue

IMG_7009 IMG_6990 IMG_7011

Friday night I’m going on a little cruise around the Boston Harbor with some friends to watch the sunset and fireworks to kick off the Fourth weekend and plan on wearing this blue and white ensemble (#spoilers).  Harbor cruises are one of my favorite summertime activities in Boston!  I love wearing red, white, and blue together; but I wanted to put together something sophisticated that would work for the adults-only boat and also if we went out afterward.  I knew I wanted to wear pants and flats so I didn’t have any wardrobe malfunctions thanks to wind or waves, so I chose to go with my white skinnys to make more of a holiday statement than classic blue jeans.  I had been eyeing these navy flats from J.Crew factory for a couple months and just finally bought them during a sale, so I’ve been itching to wear them out as much as possible!

Sailor Stripes

IMG_5022 IMG_5070 IMG_5073 IMG_5075

When I saw these adorable stripes at J.Crew, I knew I totally had to have them.  Confession: this is actually intended as a beach cover-up and not an adorable tunic-like top (crazy, I know!) But I think it totally works in more settings than just as a coverup.  Caitlin over at Southern Curls & Pearls actually wore it as a dress here and it looked super cute.  I’m too tall to be able to pull off the dress by itself outside a beach environment, since it is a bit on the short side, but I totally love it with white jeans and think it makes for a great seaside look.
