Home for the Holidays

IMG_5925IMG_5931IMG_5963IMG_5949IMG_5973IMG_5897IMG_5917IMG_5920IMG_5928

Happy Friday everyone!  I can’t believe it’s already the 22nd!  The next week for me is going to be so busy but so full and I can’t wait to spend some quality time relaxing with all of my families!  As I do every year, I’m going to take next week off from blogging.  I love coming back refreshed in the New Year, and am looking forward to taking advantage of that time to reconnect with some of my favorite people.  Make sure to follow along on Instagram, though!

This cozy sweater from Old Navy was a bit of an impulse buy for me, since I have been loving long cardigans so much these past few months.  I grabbed it straight out of the shipping box on a late fall day for a drive to the ocean with B (seen in this Instagram), and that day I completely fell in love with it.  I paired it with my Converse for some beach time, and lately I’ve been wearing it while working from home at least once per week.  For Christmastide, I knew I would want to dress it up a bit, so I paired it with these fantastic leopard booties.  I love how they make the outfit look intentional and put together, while I get to stay comfortable in this sweater!

Weekend LBD

IMG_2944IMG_2949IMG_2930IMG_2941

This Milly for Kohl’s dress is definitely my number one sidekick.  It just proves to me that the LBD cliches are totally true.  I’ve thrown on this dress for so many occasions I can hardly keep track of them.  A best friend’s birthday.  A wedding date where I don’t even know the bride and groom.  An office trip.  The list keeps going.  And last weekend, I pulled it out again for a stylish shopping trip with my mom.

Madewell is one of my favorite accessories stops in the mall.  As someone who usually gravitates towards preppy, classic, and professional styles, Madewell is the perfect stop to spice some of my looks up while still feeling totally comfortable in my style.  I bought this scarf in olive green in the fall and wore it nonstop over the colder months.  When I saw its cayenne colored twin, I knew I just had to have another one on rotation!  Add in a fun hat and these awesome Toms wedges and this little black dress suddenly has a totally different vibe to it.

This Goddess dress from Banana Republic is so true to its name.  Its easy and breezy but still has that elusive Ancient Greek glamour to it.  With some simple gold accessories, it’s the perfect item to glam up a weekend farmer’s market trip with my favorite straw tote and some comfortable embellished sandals!

Weekend Wear

IMG_9423IMG_9404IMG_9420IMG_9418IMG_9425

Today’s outfit is inspired directly by my Saturday routine.  On the average Saturday, I like to stick to my morning routine as closely as possible.  I wake up early and get to the gym right when they open, enjoy a longer workout, and then shower and get ready for my errand routine.  This past Saturday I was craving comfort even more than usual, as my feet were killing me after getting back outside training for my upcoming race and walking around Boston in heels a bit too much, definitely not my brightest moment.  I try to look somewhat presentable on my weekend errand runs because I know I’ll wind up seeing someone I know, or someone I want to know, and wearing something as simple as jeans instead of yoga pants usually makes all the difference in my eyes.

My checklist this weekend included a warm sweater so I didn’t have to carry around a coat with me and comfortable shoes for the aforementioned unhappy feet.  After I crossed those two off the list I honestly just looked for something fun to brighten up the outfit, which wound up being this necklace I got at The Limited last year.  I’ve never understood why people choose to go to the grocery store in sweat or yoga pants when it takes just as much effort to put on jeans in the morning, and that simple change can make a world of difference.  Throwing on a bright necklace or scarf really just adds to the image of effort, while still being really comfortable.  I’ll have no problems walking around and seeing people I know without mascara on and wearing street sneakers like I am here as long as I have jeans on, but if I went to Target in my gym clothes I’d wind up being so embarrassed I’d run through the store as fast as possible and forget half the things I needed.  Not like that’s ever happened before. or anything…

Weekend with Old Navy

Weekend with Old Navy

Ponchos and capes are my favorite weekend apparel.  They’re comfy for lounging on a couch watching some football, but equally as stylish for running around doing some errands.  My favorite accessory to glam up a casual weekend look is a felt fedora like this one, to add an extra element of fashion to the outfit.

Weekend Suede

Fall Suede Skirt Weekend Sweater + Hat

One of my favorite fall trends is the suede skirt.  It’s the perfect fabric for cool fall days, and camel is of course a perfect fall tone.  This skirt can easily be styled for 70s vibe by adding some fringe, a chic work look with a button down, or a casual weekend look with a sweater and sneakers!

Green and Orange

IMG_7526 IMG_7532 IMG_7529 IMG_7527

Finding new ways to wear my old favorite items is one of the most rewarding experiences my closet and I share together (and there are a lot of exciting moments in said relationship).  I think one of the most underrated purposes of fashion blogs is to inspire you to look at your current wardrobe with fresh eyes, whether it be a new color pairing or a casual weekend take on your favorite pencil skirt that you may not have tried previously.  This Banana Republic skirt is three years old, but it’s one of my favorite items in my wardrobe (largely for sentimental reasons, but also because it’s a fabulous color and great quality).  I’ve worn it with both navy and white before, but I really love the extra kick the orange accents here give it.  A-line skirts are my absolute favorites, but I like that this one is a bit shorter in length because it makes it fun and weekend appropriate!

Red Stripes

IMG_5520 IMG_5497

At long last, Memorial Day is right around the corner! Aside from all of the obvious reasons I love summer (pool parties, beach trips, and general nice weather), the constant excuse to wear Red, White, and Blue is definitely one my favorites.  This adorable Milly for DesigNation dress is the perfect piece for a casual party this weekend.  Just add some of your favorite American accessories and you are barbecue ready!

Bubble Gum

Happy Tuesday, world!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was extra long thanks to Patriots’ Day, also known as Marathon Monday.  If you live outside of Massachusetts and don’t celebrate Patriots’ Day, you are really missing out- it’s sort of accepted as almost being better than Christmas.  Boston.com wrote an awesome article about why Patriots’ Day should be a Federal Holiday here, and I couldn’t agree with it more.  It’s a really unique holiday where there aren’t any expectations or stipulations; just a bunch of crazy runners making the 26.2 mile trek towards the city as other just plain crazy Bostonians watch and cheer on every single runner as a community, the likes of which I have never seen anywhere else.

Today’s look is from this past weekend; filled with not only awesome holidays, but also awesome weather.  This lightweight LOFT sweater is a perfect spring top, and will be equally amazing this summer to throw on at night when the temps drop a bit.  I love the bright pink color (staying true to the new obsession I divulged here), and decided to go with all silver accents to keep the look a bit more subdued for a day spent watching baseball games and other low-key weekend activities.
