My Favorite Winter Outfit Formula

IMG_6607IMG_6609IMG_6598IMG_6585

Hi everyone, happy Friday!  This winter has been unbelievably cold for a long stretch here in MA, so on Wednesday when the temps reached into the 20s I took advantage of the chance to wear tights again!  I am always cold, but I really don’t love wearing jeans, which makes winter my most frustrating fashion season.  I’m much more comfortable both physically and mentally in skirts and dresses than I am in pants, so anytime it’s warm enough to wear tights I jump at the opportunity!

Holiday Pink

Hey everyone, happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  With all the red and green holiday outfits out there, I wanted to share a fun alternative that’s just as festive.  I love the shine to this pleated skirt, and combined with some long pearls it gives off some pretty Nutcracker vibes, no?

Wearing Blush in October

Hey y’all, welcome back!  Today I want to talk about ways to wear your lighter colors through the fall. I think it’s one of my responsibilities as a blogger to not only tell you what items I think you should add to your closet, but more importantly ways to wear those items again and again.  Midi skirts are a staple in my wardrobe, and therefore I love finding new ways to wear them as late as my bare legs will let me!  So if you ever bought a blush pleated midi skirt because of me, this post is dedicated to you.

My first step was these fabulous leopard booties, and then paired it with this maroon sweater.  With the blush anchored in darker hues, it blends it seamlessly through a see of October colors!

An Olive, a Camel, and a Leopard…

img_8605 img_8596 img_8579 img_8589 img_8583 img_8597

I have been loving the combination of a sweater under a blazer this month.  My office doesn’t get as much sun as the front offices do, and I feel like we are in a constant battle of how high to keep the heat up.  Instead of keeping my winter coat on all day (which definitely does not feel great on my shoulders and neck), I’ve been layering a cozy crew neck sweater underneath a blazer.  It’s definitely not too warm where it gets uncomfortable, but keeps the warmth in just enough for me to be not shivering all day long!

Back to Basics

Happy Friday guys!  Hope you all had a great week!  Mine was pretty low key, mostly relaxing after a very eventful and busy two weeks of traveling and trying to catch up on some work.  When I have all sorts of things on my plate, this color combo never fails me.  Black and olive with a touch of denim transcend seasons in my book, and I took my favorite date night outfit from summer to fall just by switching out the tank for a sweater and adding some tights and booties.

In Case You Missed It

I kept this suede skirt from Zara on repeat all last fall and winter (here, here, and here).  It was definitely one of my best buys last year, being both affordable and versatile (is there anything better?!) for months of wear.  When I was at shopping at the Wrentham Outlets with my mom a few weeks ago, she picked up this beautiful olive cardigan to wear with a classic white blouse and camel skirt.  As always, I had to take inspiration from her and pair this steal of a sweater with this beloved suede skirt.  Any opportunity to wear more olive and suede you know I’m the first in line to sign up for.

Tan, Pink, and Navy

This tank and jacket combo was one of my first purchases from White House Black Market five years ago.  I vividly remember my parents taking me there for internship pieces (first my dad when I needed a suit, then my mom for daily professional wear).  I loved this combo so much as an 18 year old that I wore it to work, then with jeans on Thanksgiving, and I even wore it out on a Saturday night in college with a tweed skirt.  Which is maybe not the best example of asking a business school student what to wear on a Saturday night, but it does speak volumes about White House Black Market pieces and their timelessness.  I think they look just as good today as they did five years ago.

Living in New England, sometimes we’re forced to give up flattering outfits in favor of functional ones in order to not freeze.  On the days that it’s unbearably freezing, or I’m going to be outside for a long period of time, I usually try to wear bright, vibrant colors to counteract the shapelessness of winter parkas.  I love how affordable these fun colored boots from Target are- they make for a great addition to spice up your snow wardrobe!

Shades of Brown

IMG_0513

This faux leather jacket from Express is one of my go to’s for casual weekend layering for fall and winter.  My faux leather jackets are definitely one of my fashion must haves (I wear them under parkas during the winter so I have an extra layer on when I’m inside), and I’ve always been a big fan of brown- either as a neutral, or in varying shades by itself.  My sister and I have this exact same jacket and riding boots, and showed up to our brother’s high school football game wearing them and sweaters in this exact latte color- we actually match accidentally pretty often!  If that doesn’t speak to the functionality of this color combo, I don’t know what would!  I love how this jacket can add a touch of edge and glam to even a turtleneck!  As far as turtlenecks go, this one is a definite winner.  I love how it’s still a warm and chunky knit, but is more fitted than most turtlenecks, so it isn’t totally shapeless and unflattering.
