Nothing Rhymes With Orange

IMG_3683  IMG_3703 IMG_3704

Although it has been getting significantly warmer up north, we definitely still have a few cold days left before spring comes around in full force.  For these days, I love wearing a bright colored coat like this orange one.  I found it at TJMaxx a few years ago, but I love breaking it out every spring.  It is still practical for those chilly March days, but also adds a nice spring color to brighten up the day (and my mood).  Last weekend dipped back into the 30s, so I had to layer it with this soft oatmeal colored turtleneck to stay warm!  Soon, sundresses.  I’m coming for you soon.

Cinderella

IMG_3639 IMG_3642 IMG_3643 IMG_3645 IMG_3653 IMG_3656 IMG_3666

Cinderella has been on my mind consistently lately with the new live-action movie just released this weekend!  My younger brother was in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella this past weekend, and I went to see the Disney movie for a fun girls’ night last night with my mom and sister!  The entire movie was absolutely transcendent, from the set and screenplay to casting and acting, but I had a particular soft spot for the breathtaking costumes and majestic makeup!  With so much Cinderella on my brain, I’ve been noticing shades of pale blue everywhere I go!  It’s definitely been popping up a lot this spring, so I felt inspired to whip out this peasant blouse from Francesca’s that I’ve had for about two years now!  The color is right on trend with pastels for this spring, and perfect to wear to the movie tonight!

Outfit Details- Blouse: Francesca’s | Jeans: Lucky Brand | Earrings: Bauble Bar | Purse: Urban Outfitters | Boots: Urban Outfitters

I also love this bucket bagbauble necklace, striped skirt, scalloped dress, pleated skirt, lace top, leather pencil skirt, and lace sheath dress!

As a certifiable Lauren Conrad fanatic, I’m personally obligated to tell you how much I adore her Cinderella collection for Kohl’s.  The tulle skirt and feminine dresses (in pale blue hues, of course!) are just to die for.

In other Cinderella-related news, you are probably all too aware of the fact that MAC released their own take on “the most iconic Disney princess of all”- a limited edition Cinderella colour collection!  It comes in the prettiest pearlized lavender blue packaging and gold lined boxes! The magical and sparkling collection has sold out pretty much everywhere- I called about a dozen MAC/Macy’s stores trying to hunt down the “Royal Ball” lipstick with no success.  However I was able to snag the other lipstick “Free as a Butterfly“, a lipglass “Happily Ever After“, and a gel liner “Little Black Bow“.  I walked into the store not even thinking about the liner, as I had my mind dead set on the lipstick, but the saleswoman convinced me to try it on and I fell in love with it on the spot!  I have always shied away from liquid and gel liners in the past, but this one has convinced me to give more of them a try in the future!  MAC’s “Fluidline” can even double as an eyeshadow just by switching up your brush, which creates a really cool monochrome look.  The “Free as a Butterfly” lipstick was much lighter than I’m used to wearing, but with some persuasion (and a strategic lip liner pencil) I think we managed to create a really cool look with just the right amount of princess shimmer on top!

Burgundy Cape

IMG_3356 IMG_3406 IMG_3410

This past week has been almost consistently above freezing, so I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to re-wear some of my beloved fall staples (like this cape and my fave quilted vest)!  I love love love capes- they appeal to both my fashion side and my geeky side.  As soon as I slip my arms through this cape I feel like I’ve been transported back to a more glamorous decade, and simultaneously like I’m one of my favorite superheroes (I know I know- so nerdy).  But if these two examples say anything, it’s that wearing a cape is always appropriate.  Regardless of the occasion, a cape is always a perfect fit.

A Neon Winter

IMG_3208

The bad news is we got more snow last night.  But the good news is that spring is only three weeks away!  For all of you who live in warmer weather climates, I would like to reiterate how envious I am of your living situation at least one more time.  I was so cold while I took these pictures, but I really wanted to give this sweater proper attention at this exact moment because it is suitable for all weather climates.  Whether you’re already transitioning into springtime or still have a few more weeks of winter, this fun neon sweater can be the perfect way to gear up for warmer weather or simply brighten up a drab winter day.  Also: pockets.

It’s now super on sale in stores and online, but definitely worth popping into a LOFT store to check it out if you have a spare minute because when I was in there a couple weeks ago they had a ton of items in this fun coral shade!

February Finds

Happy Friday! I could definitely get used to this four-day-work-week we’ve had for five consecutive weeks up north, but that doesn’t mean Friday isn’t any more welcome than usual! Especially since this one marks just over a week left of February- finally, spring is around the corner!

In case you missed out on some of the President’s Day sales, there are still plenty to be found around the interwebs this weekend, too!

Land’s End: 25% off Friends and Family with code FORFRIENDS. I’m especially obsessed with this gorgeous cognac perforated purse, this elegant leather bucket bag, and the perfect nautical scarf.

J.Crew: 20% off (or 25% with your J.Crew card!) with code SHOPPINGTIME.  On my wish list are the lemon blazer, bay blue panama hat, and this dreamy eyelet organza dress!

GAP: 30% off everything with code MAJOR.  I love this seersucker dress, barn red skimmer jeans, and Nelson Mandela tee.

Nordstrom: up to 40% off clearance sale items, prices as marked.  You can’t go wrong with this gorgeous silver Kate Spade watch,  vintage burgundy Current/Elliott jeans, or this Kate Spade glitter bug wristlet (I think it would be the perfect gift for one of my little princess-loving cousins!)

Aimee Song shared her Top 10 Instagrams To Follow During Fashion Week (and really, we should all follow them year round).

WhoWhatWear.com gave us Three Hacks for Scratched Sunglasses.

I loved seeing Sarah Vickers and Kiel James Patrick’s fun 19th century shoot for The Accidental Empress.  It definitely inspired me to add the book to my reading list!

Follow me on Pinterest this weekend and get a glimpse at what is inspiring me for spring- and get another follower for yourself too!

Do any of you have any fun plans this weekend?! I’d love to hear about them!

Until next time!

Americana

IMG_3059

I can’t get enough of anything American (Fourth of July is my favorite holiday, and I come from a pretty patriotic family) and fashion trends are no exception.  Red and blue is one of my favorite color combinations to wear, and I love when I find winter-approved ways to incorporate it into my wardrobe.  Plus, what’s more American than stripes and denim?!

Confession: I had been on the hunt for a red leather jacket since season one of Once Upon A Time (aka over three years ago!) when Emma debuted her signature look.  I was beyond ecstatic when I found this one at Ann Taylor- the moto and burgundy combination was the perfect fit for what I didn’t even know I was looking for!

Winter Blues

IMG_3164

Another snowstorm this weekend and another case of winter blues up here in Massachusetts.  Luckily, the bright spring tones are the perfect cure for all of the brown slushy snow and the freezing cold.  This bright blue jacket is the perfect transitional piece as well, since it’s lighter than a traditional winter jacket.  I always turn to Old Navy for their selection of jackets for every season, especially since they are at the perfect price to have multiple options! You can view their full collection online here.

Cozy

Manhattan may have been underwhelmed by Juno, but most of Massachusetts saw almost (or more than) two feet yesterday!  The driving ban made sure I stayed inside all day, which had me craving some new warm and cozy wardrobe additions!  So today I’m sharing with you the fruits of my labor (aka obsessive online shopping) and showing you some of my favorite cozy finds!

I have such a soft spot for sweaters, they are definitely my go to comfort piece!  This year I’ve been loving the cape trend too!  They are so easy to dress up and look chic in, but genuinely feel like you are wearing a blanket!

I love Kimberly’s chic black and grey look with her Topshop poncho (now on sale for $30!)  My TOMS + Target one has sold out, but you can get some styling ideas over at this post!

Gifts That Give Back- World AIDS Day

Today, December 1, is World AIDS Day.  (RED) is a remarkable organization that has been striving to deliver an AIDS free generation since 2006.  With the holiday season now upon us, it is a great opportunity to choose to gift through an organization that also donates to the Global Fund in the hunt to end HIV/AIDS.

(RED)

one // two // three // four // five // six

Perhaps my favorite item from this selection is the FEED (RED) 30 bag.  From Founder Lauren Bush Lauren, FEED- also founded in 2006- donates a portion of each bag to the United Nations World Food Programme.  So this particular bag can donate 30 days of life saving AIDS prevention pills AND also 30 meals through the United Nations Food Programme.

Every product purchased from Apple retail stores worldwide and online today, will help support (RED) to fight AIDS.  So if you were planning on making an Apple purchase for the holidays, today is the day to do it!
