Hey guys!  I hope you all enjoyed meeting my sister on Monday.  She always surprises me with her out of the box fashion choices, and how she always manages to show her personality through her clothes, whether it’s on the weekend or at a 9-5 job.

I suppose a similar thing could be said about me, since I love wearing nautical stripes and color combinations even past summer’s unofficial end on Labor Day as homage to my beloved sea.

Memorial Day Weekend

IMG_1655.jpg

Happy Friday loves!  Sorry for the mini hiatus last week.  Sometimes my work weeks can just get away from me, and last week was my little sister’s college graduation so we had a full agenda!  But today is the perfect time to start back up again, with Memorial Day being the unofficial start to summer (aka my favorite season!).  My family has a history of public service, and along with the barbecues and the summer concerts, my hometown parade is one of my favorite honorary traditions.

I just had to scoop up this darling fit and flare dress when I spotted it at Macy’s a few months ago.  I instantly knew it would be perfect for the summer’s first official long weekend.  It goes great with boat shoes for walking around comfortably in or participating in some MDW volleyball action, but also looks great with my favorite wedges for dinner.  I love how I can always count on Macy’s for classic American brands and style year round.  Tommy Hilfiger is one of my favorite brands to shop at the closest mall, and you can always find such great deals with Macy’s coupons!  (Mom and Nana, you taught me well).

Eyelet and Stripes

Eyelet & Stripes on The Sol Compass J.Crew outfit on The Sol Compass IMG_0901

It’s incredibly likely that I will never get tired of American themed outfits i.e. anything involving a combination red, white, blue, and stripes-or better yet, all three.  Patriots’ Day (better known as Marathon Monday) is somewhat of a sacred day here in Massachusetts and the perfect excuse to break out the Americana.  I stalked this skirt from J.Crew for months until it was low enough on sale to snag it up.  That meant I wound up with a beautiful eyelet midi skirt in the dead of winter, patiently hanging in my closet waiting for warmer days when we could rock all kinds of color combinations together. Stay tuned for more.  (I also found a few similar options, including one for $25 that you can shop below!)

American Cupcakes

IMG_6956 IMG_6967 IMG_6970

It was pretty tough for me to pick a Fourth of July outfit to share today, because in my heart all summer is America season!  I really love America (in case you haven’t caught on to that yet), so, naturally, I love wearing red, white, and blue!  I’ll be sharing two more Independence Day themed outfits with you in the next week, but this is the one I ultimately chose to wear on the holiday itself.  I rarely wear t-shirts in daily life, so a Saturday holiday seemed like as good a reason as any to break out one of my favorites!  Johnny Cupcakes is one of my all-time favorite Boston brands.  Founder Johnny Earle has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit (definitely see him speak publicly if you ever have the opportunity) and a really cool story that you can read about here.  Personal opinion: if you’re going to wear a t-shirt, it should probably be a statement making one.  In that category, Johnny Cupcakes definitely does not disappoint.  This Captain America inspired gem was just recently restocked, but so far none of the other Avengers ones have been- so definitely snag one up while you can!  It’s unbelievably comfy and perfect for a day of wiffleball games and volleyball tournaments, which is the only way I can imagine celebrating America.  An important note: it does run super small.  I usually wear an XS-S in tops, and this medium fits me on the snug side.

Keeping up with the cute and comfortable theme of today: TOMS are my must have barbecue shoe.  They’re easy to slip on and off when you need to change into a swimsuit, and equally as easy to play basketball in.  So for any active celebrations these are a must (I’m partial to the classic red since they can be worn with so many outfits, but I also really love all of the American styles they offer!)  Last but certainly not least, J.Crew Factory and J.Crew have the most amazing denim boyfriend shorts I have ever worn.  They are so soft and flexible and universally flattering I cannot think of a more perfect item for the Fourth.

Red Stripes

At long last, Memorial Day is right around the corner! Aside from all of the obvious reasons I love summer (pool parties, beach trips, and general nice weather), the constant excuse to wear Red, White, and Blue is definitely one my favorites.  This adorable Milly for DesigNation dress is the perfect piece for a casual party this weekend.  Just add some of your favorite American accessories and you are barbecue ready!

Americana

IMG_3059

I can’t get enough of anything American (Fourth of July is my favorite holiday, and I come from a pretty patriotic family) and fashion trends are no exception.  Red and blue is one of my favorite color combinations to wear, and I love when I find winter-approved ways to incorporate it into my wardrobe.  Plus, what’s more American than stripes and denim?!

Confession: I had been on the hunt for a red leather jacket since season one of Once Upon A Time (aka over three years ago!) when Emma debuted her signature look.  I was beyond ecstatic when I found this one at Ann Taylor- the moto and burgundy combination was the perfect fit for what I didn’t even know I was looking for!

Super Snow

IMG_3018

With a never-ending series of snowstorms up north, I’ve been in constant need of some cute, warm, and waterproof footwear.  My Sperry Duck Boots have made quite a few appearances (last seen on Instagram and the blog), but with three feet of snow, sometimes I need a boot with higher coverage, like my reliable Hunter Rain Boots.  Add in a pair of warm fleece socks, and my feet stay warm and dry all day long.  Seriously, it was four degrees while I was standing in the snow in these pictures and my feet were warm and dry the whole time!  I’m also taking advantage of any chance to wear red and blue to celebrate the Pats Super Bowl win on Sunday!

A Nautical Winter

IMG_1996With temperatures now consistently below 40, I finally accepted the fact that winter is here for good.  Luckily, I found the perfect cold weather accessories to make myself a little bit more excited for the winter (but only a little).

I am seriously in love with these Sperry Top-Sider duck boots.  Not only are they great for walking through the snow and the slush, but they also bring one of my favorite summer trends (nautical stripes) into winter.  I could easily wear navy and red all summer long, and I love that these boots make it possible to do so in the winter as well!

Other winter trends I can’t get enough of: toggle coats, leather gloves, and plaid blanket scarves!
