Transition Basics

IMG_0890IMG_0898IMG_0894IMG_0889

Hey everyone, happy Friday!  I wore this skirt last Friday here and really can’t recommend it for fall enough.  It comes in six colors here and here, so there are plenty of options!  With it’s heavier fabric, it is the perfect way to keep wearing skirts as the temperatures drop a little bit.  And the price point certainly can’t be beat!

On Thin Ice

Happy Monday, y’all.  I hope your week is off to a good start.  Today I wanted to share a few snaps of the look I wore ice skating this weekend.  Bae and I tend to spend our fairer weather weekends visiting New England cities, but this winter we’ve done a pretty good job so far at not allowing the inclement weather to deter us from spending time in our favorite Boston neighborhoods as well.

While there are some more well known and mainstream rinks in the area, we opted to go to the Kendall Square rink for a little winter fun.  I always check groupon for great deals on ice skating and they always come through, whether it’s Kendall Square or Frog Pond!

Hope you all have a great week! Thanks for reading!

2017

img_7548 img_7556

Hey everyone, welcome back!  I hope you all had a great holiday season and that your year is off to an excellent start.  2016 was a great year for me.  I traveled to a few new and a few old places, ate lots of tacos, and continued to fall more in love with this great big beautiful world around me.  I’m so excited to write 2017 with even more love and tacos.

While I’m kicking off this year with an outfit post, I would love to hear what you guys want to see more of on the blog.  I have a few Disney posts to share with you about outfits and meals, plus I’m starting Whole30 on Sunday to reset after the gluttonous holiday season and vacation.  If you guys have any interest in following along as I do it (or if there’s anything else you want to see more of) let me know in the comments below!

Shearling

Bad things happen when I walk into Target.  I go in for toothpaste and walk out at least fifty dollars poorer practically every time.  When I went to get these darling Adam Lippes for Target pumps I walked by this vest and instantly grabbed it off of the shelf.  It’s perfectly on trend for fall, incredibly cozy, and only $35.  Sold?  Yeah, so was I.

In other fun news, today is my last day being 23!  It still feels sort of surreal.  24 is pretty much full-fledged mid-twenties, so I feel like I can no longer use the ‘well, I’m 23’ excuse for everything like I have been.  I definitely thought I would have my life a little more together by 24, but I never knew I would have found a hobby that I love as much as I love blogging.  So whether this is your first visit to The Sol Compass or you’ve been reading for the past year since I started, I want to thank you all from the very bottom of my heart for making this blog a possibility and a very real ray of sunshine into my every day life!

Fall In Love

IMG_8335 IMG_8326

One of my favorite color combinations for fall is blush and burgundy.  I love the romantic vibe they give off together and the way the blush can lighten up a dark and bold autumn color like burgundy and give it a fresh feminine twist.  I try to avoid matching my shoes and my bag too frequently, since it seems safe and predictable, but I love the way the brown in my accessories anchors the whole outfit in the current season.

Burgundy Cape

IMG_3356 IMG_3406 IMG_3410

This past week has been almost consistently above freezing, so I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to re-wear some of my beloved fall staples (like this cape and my fave quilted vest)!  I love love love capes- they appeal to both my fashion side and my geeky side.  As soon as I slip my arms through this cape I feel like I’ve been transported back to a more glamorous decade, and simultaneously like I’m one of my favorite superheroes (I know I know- so nerdy).  But if these two examples say anything, it’s that wearing a cape is always appropriate.  Regardless of the occasion, a cape is always a perfect fit.

Winter Blues

IMG_3164

Another snowstorm this weekend and another case of winter blues up here in Massachusetts.  Luckily, the bright spring tones are the perfect cure for all of the brown slushy snow and the freezing cold.  This bright blue jacket is the perfect transitional piece as well, since it’s lighter than a traditional winter jacket.  I always turn to Old Navy for their selection of jackets for every season, especially since they are at the perfect price to have multiple options! You can view their full collection online here.

Be Mine

vdayoutfit

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I had to hit up Nordstrom.com this past weekend to find my perfect date night outfit.  I love the fun flirty lace on this Little Black Dress, especially next to the chic structure of this white envelope clutch.  The perfect pair of red pumps add just the right amount of color to the black and white look, while heart shaped earrings and an arrow bracelet allude to Cupid’s matchmaking magic.  Essie’s Buy Me A Cameo is one of my most trusted nail polish hues, so it will definitely be making an understated sparkle on the special evening.

What are your outfit and date plans for Valentine’s Day?

Leave a Little Sparkle

IMG_0061 IMG_0065 IMG_0057IMG_0068 IMG_0070 IMG_0076 IMG_0080 IMG_0082

The holidays may be over, but by no means does that require sparkle and sequins leave with them!  I love this Tommy Hilfiger sweater with its bright colors and subtle sparkle for keeping the dreary winter months exciting.  I tend to dread the bitter cold of January and February, but layering (especially collars and sweaters) is one of my favorite ways to make it a bit more exciting.  I went with minimal accessories to complement the sweater because, much to my dismay, the holidays are over.

Stay warm, and have a wonderful weekend!

Visions of Sugarplums

IMG_2243

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is the ballet.  The Nutcracker will always be a timeless Christmas tale, and the ballet brings it to life so gracefully that it would be a shame to miss it even once.  Channeling the ballet’s tradition of pastels, I chose some cool winter tones and embellishments for some extra holiday glam.  This sweater is super cozy and warm, but I may add some tights with the temperatures still dropping consistently!  I also love this skirt with black for a sophisticated evening look- the embellishments add the perfect amount of extra sparkle for any holiday occasion!
