What’s Old Is New

IMG_0696.jpg

Happy Friday everyone!  Today I’m sharing a look I wore earlier this week when it felt like summer out!  I was honestly not prepared to dress for the warmth, as many of my 85 degree appropriate clothes are still in storage!  So to improvise, I wore this olive skirt I paired with tights over the winter and this old pink top from Banana Republic.  Add in my new favorite shoes, and these old pieces felt brand new.

Coral and Olive

Welcome back everyone!  With such undeniable signs of spring this weekend, it felt like the perfect time to start showing off some of my favorite spring combinations.  I love the combination of slouchy trousers and a structured blazer this time of year, especially in these gorgeous spring colors!

Back to Basics

Happy Friday guys!  Hope you all had a great week!  Mine was pretty low key, mostly relaxing after a very eventful and busy two weeks of traveling and trying to catch up on some work.  When I have all sorts of things on my plate, this color combo never fails me.  Black and olive with a touch of denim transcend seasons in my book, and I took my favorite date night outfit from summer to fall just by switching out the tank for a sweater and adding some tights and booties.

How the West Was Won

img_5907img_5901img_5891

Happy Hump Day guys!  While most of my looks are heavily based in my New England roots, every once in a while I find inspiration from travels, movies, pop culture, and more sneaking their way through.  A combination of planning a trip to Texas and watching the Magnificent Seven resulted in this ensemble with my all time favorite denim jacket and two of my favorite fall pieces-the bandana and the felt hat.  I have to tell you, I definitely don’t hate it.

Jeans and a Cute Top

img_5248 img_5288 img_5282

“Are you even a girl if you aren’t wearing ‘jeans and a cute top’?”  I saw that on twitter the other day and burst out laughing at work (…oops).  Unfortunately, that perfect outfit formula has been a real challenge for me some days, since my top section of my closet has always been my least favorite.  I’m more likely to wear a skirt with a casual tee (here, here, and here) than a really nice blouse with some jeans.  Having realized how lackluster my ‘cute top’ collection was, I set out to find those perfect pieces that could elevate a pair of jeans to the next level.  As always, Banana Republic did not disappoint me.

Olive and Burgundy

img_4708 img_4692

Hey guys!  This week I felt compelled to pair my two favorite fall shades – olive and burgundy – together, but was determined to not make it feel too Christmasy.  Even though the associated holiday hues are usually brighter shades, I decided to break them up with a black skirt, so the top and purse wouldn’t be too close together.

Blush & Olive

Today’s outfit features my two must have colors for spring: blush and olive!  I’m always trying to find just the right balance in my outfits, and the femininity of the blush perfectly offsets the olive green!

I’ve been walking around D.C. this week and desperately hoping that the sunshine will tan up my winter white legs a bit.  The weather has been nothing short of amazing and has completely enhanced my experience.  Everything in the tourist areas is so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing it’s a blogger/photographer’s dream!  Make sure to follow along on Instagram!

Safari

You all would probably laugh if I told you how many shirtdresses I have bought and returned, and how many more I have tried on in stores.  I’ve always loved the idea of them, but for the most part a straight cut shirtdress just does nothing for my figure.  The drop-waist and flounce detail on this one are what finally sealed the deal for me (well, that and the fact that it was on major sale).

Cognac has always been one of my favorite hues and I have always associated it with adventurous tendencies, so combined with spring’s must have olive color they have me daydreaming of African safaris-in much more practical shoes, of course!
