Hello everyone, happy hump day!  I have such a weakness for a great matching outfit, and so the black and olive hues in this ensemble are right up my alley.

Transitioning Colors

Happy Friday everyone!  This week was back into the 80s here in Mass, so it felt unnatural to wear the conventional fall colors.  Instead I took the opportunity to embrace lighter colors together in one palette again.  This dreamy jacket from LOFT would be gorgeous over navy or aubergine well into the fall, and makes such a nice contrast to my usual dark leather jackets!

If you missed it, on Wednesday I announced my second giveaway to celebrate The Sol Compass’ third birthday!  I’m giving away a beautiful handmade wooden sunglasses case, so make sure you enter here!

Out Like a Lion

Hello my darlings!  Welcome back.  I can hardly believe today is the last day of March.  My boss always makes an adopted version of the old poem and says in Massachusetts March is “In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lion” (not a lamb!)  I somehow have felt even colder this week – presumably because my heart is ready for skirts and sandals and it makes the cold air feel so much worse!  Especially this snow storm we’re getting today… Major eye roll.

This has been my go-to combination for a coffee date or drinks with friends recently.  When I just want to take off the tights and put on something warm but still look put together, a cute top and a leather jacket never let me down.  Lately I’ve been throwing on these super cute blush flats any chance I can – they are perfectly on trend and are comfortable enough to walk around downtown in a hurry to get inside again!

Freshen Up

Happy Hump Day my friends!  I hope you all enjoyed this week’s Monday with Mac!  While we were out shooting and running errands we spontaneously decided to start a vlog!  We know pretty much nothing about vlogs, but I love the video editing I do for work and Michaela makes really great GoPro videos of our vacations, so it feels like a next logical step to take the blog to the next level.  If any of you have any advice please send it our way!

With every little spring tease, I’ve been trying to bring more hints of warmth into my outfits.  I’ve been seeing so many outfits in my head with yellow heels that I went on a hunt to find a perfect but affordable pair.  I first ordered this pair from Steve Madden, but when they came in they were a little more mustard colored than I wanted, so I ordered these Charles by Charles David Pact Pumps (more sizes available here) and I could not believe how obsessed I am with them given their price point!

Splash of Bordeaux

img_5851 img_5842 img_5864

Welcome back!  In today’s post I wanted to put a spin on this jacket that I traditionally pair with navy or black (like I did a year and a half ago here).  I’ve also been challenging myself to find fresh ways to wear white after Labor Day while looking seasonally appropriate, like I did in this post last week.  A white top on white bottoms is a great way to accent another color, such as this seasonal favorite bordeaux.

Contrast

I am constantly trying to find ways to pull off the ‘summer dress in winter’ thing, and usually don’t succeed.  Most of this problem is because my summer dresses come in primarily summer colors and aquamarine just doesn’t work in New England January under any circumstances.  This little gem from Lucky Brand that I got a few years ago, fortunately comes with season-proof black sprinkled throughout and makes my job so much easier.  Black on black on black with some pink sprinkled in is super easy to work with, so I added this pale pink scarf in the mix to keep the vibe happy and colorful.  Spring, I’m coming for you…

Black and Blue

New England Fall Outfit Photography Inspiration love this blue faux leather jacket for fall black flat chelsea boots for fall concert crossbody bag blue faux leather jacket quilted leather details Black and Blue fall outfit inspiration

Fun fact that you may not know about me: I go to a lot of concerts.  Last year I went to eighteen, and I have three coming up in the next month.  After lots of trial and error, I’ve developed a pretty good idea of what works for concert attire- especially during cold New England nights.

When you have to balance waiting outside in the cold with being suffocated by the body heat of a thousand other people, getting dressed can be a real struggle.  I try to avoid using coat check (unless I actually wore a parka), so a little white tee and a faux leather jacket make for a perfect combination.  This jacket is light enough that I can keep it on for most of the night and then just tie it around my waist easily, and a white tee never fails for any occasion.  I love how stretchy and comfortable these Topshop skinnies are, and a pair of black Chelsea boots are necessary for any concert- both stylish and practical.  These ones are incredibly comfortable and have become my go to shoe for anytime I leave the house lately!
