Belle Meade

IMG_1046.jpg

Good morning everyone, happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  Today kicks off my mini series of posts from our Tennessee trip!  We had beautiful weather while we were there, and spent one gorgeous afternoon at the Belle Meade plantation.  The day started off with a tour of the mansion, including some background history of Bonnie Scottland (ancestor of 104 Kentucky Derby winners!) and the Harding-Jackson family influence throughout the Civil War era.  The tour ended with a wine tasting in the Winery, a small shop filled with wines and gifts alike!

I could not be more excited to have a chance to wear this pink lace midi dress.  It was perfect paired with a little denim jacket, and comes in tall and petite sizes, so you can definitely find you find your perfect length!

After the tour and wine tasting, we easily could have spent hours exploring the beautifully landscaped grounds around the plantation and learning more about Uncle Bob Green and the horses!

Eggnog After Work

img_7478

Welcome back guys!  I hope you all had a great week.  Today’s holiday outfit is inspired by those impromptu happy hours after work where you have to take your 9-5 outfit out into the real world.  This skirt is the most festive pencil skirt possibly ever and there’s no reason for it to not make an appearance once per week until Christmas.  Seriously guys this is not a drill.  It adds a bit of holiday happiness, to your work day, but by swapping your blazer for a leather jacket at 5:01pm. all of a sudden you’re ready for some well deserved Christmas Cheer.

Jeans and a Cute Top

img_5248 img_5288 img_5282

“Are you even a girl if you aren’t wearing ‘jeans and a cute top’?”  I saw that on twitter the other day and burst out laughing at work (…oops).  Unfortunately, that perfect outfit formula has been a real challenge for me some days, since my top section of my closet has always been my least favorite.  I’m more likely to wear a skirt with a casual tee (here, here, and here) than a really nice blouse with some jeans.  Having realized how lackluster my ‘cute top’ collection was, I set out to find those perfect pieces that could elevate a pair of jeans to the next level.  As always, Banana Republic did not disappoint me.

Saratoga Springs

IMG_3445

Good morning everyone!  Happy Friday.  Here’s a look at one of the outfits I wore this week in Saratoga Springs.  I’ve mentioned before that I always manage to forget something while packing, and this trip it was my gladiators.  Luckily Downtown Saratoga is filled with plenty of stores, so I was able to run into a GAP and snag these leather flip flops to wear with my skirt and dress outfits.

We took these pictures in the beautiful Congress Park, right in the middle of Downtown Saratoga.  I could easily spend hours inside.  The design is so thoughtful that the beauty and purposefulness of the park is overwhelming.  Race Season kicks off down the street from Congress Park this weekend and it is sure to be an exciting season at the Saratoga Race Track!

Blushing

Blush | The Sol Compass

My unintentional style theme for the month of September so far has been mixing and matching- starting with summer and fall trends and now into professional and casual wear.  I love the contrast between the feminine lace of this long and conservative pencil skirt and the dark denim of a tied chambray shirt.  I find below the knee skirts are often unexpected on early 20somethings, and I think the fun chambray keeps this outfit youthful and unpredictable.

Sunshine Skirt

IMG_7203 IMG_7204 IMG_7219 IMG_7225 IMG_7255

Here’s the weird thing about today’s post: I don’t even like the color yellow.  Yeah, I know.  Blame it on my inner cynical Bostonian, but the color yellow is usually way too aggressively happy and obnoxiously bright for my liking.  Yet, despite this strong opinion I’ve held onto for years, I love this skirt.  This shade of yellow is soft and buttery enough to brighten up any outfit just the right amount.  I’m also partial to pale yellow paired with olive green, so just add in some delicate gold accents and preppy loafers and this outfit is an all-star in my book.
