Holiday Pot Luck

I know I tend to post way more skirt and dress outfits than jeans outfits around here (something I promise I am working on!) so I’m trying to incorporate some festive but casual outfits for the season on the blog!  It’s no secret that I had jewel tones on repeat all autumn long, but the hint of green in this jade top brings it into the Christmas season really effortlessly.  It looks great with navy, as I styled for Thanksgiving here, but it also contrasts really nicely with a pair of gray jeans and some edgy black accessories, for the girl who is slightly less into embracing festive apparel than I am (again, so predictable).

Last Minute Thanksgiving Outfit

I think one thing everyone has in common is having to throw an outfit together at the last minute for one holiday or another.  Luckily Thanksgiving has a much more flexible color palette than some other holidays (looking at you, Christmas…) so it’s reasonably easy to pull something together with items already in your closet.

I usually think of warm oranges and earthy browns when I think of Thanksgiving, but this year I have been loving deep jewel tones so much that I broke out this reliable navy skirt and a soft tee (my favorite pair!) in navy and jade.

Deep Jewel Tones

Before I started this blog, I pretty much exclusively wore bright colors regardless or trends, seasons, or other fashion rules.  As the years have gone by and I started to pay much more attention to trends and protocols, I couldn’t help but notice the special associations seasonal colors have.  This spring I dabbled in a lot of pastels, a way to tone down an outfit without losing any edge or excitement, and this fall it’s been a series of deep jewel tones such as olive, navy, burgundy, and aubergine.  The dark hues are seasonally appropriate, but their rich shades still allow some of that bold expression that I love.
