Red and White

I honestly feel like red and white just simply doesn’t get enough play as a color combination.  I wore this exact same color combination in this exact same spot on my annual Coastal Maine expedition last year in this post and didn’t even realize it (Lizzie McGuire, you are an outfit repeater!)  That outfit is actually one of my all time favorites (as I explained in the post).  But I guess the ocean just feels like red and white to me, reminiscent of these lighthouses and old sails.  For the second time in Maine this year, I broke out some reliable J.Crew Factory shorts.  They really are the perfect vacation staple and I just cannot recommend them enough.  I don’t know about you all, but I am always on the lookout for perfect white tops with intricate details and so I was beyond excited when I found this one.  It goes with literally everything, but adds a bit more dimension than a traditional white cotton tee.

Newport

Happy Hump Day friends!  Last week I tacked a much needed staycation onto the long weekend and managed to take a little trip out to Newport, Rhode Island-one of my favorite spots in New England!  It’s incredibly popular for girls’ weekends, bachelorette trips, and the like.  I’ve gone down with my family for reunions, business trips, and even to see the mansions decked out in their Christmas best!  I wrote a couple posts about my time there last year here and here!

First stop is the Cliff Walk.  Nestled on the coast between the Atlantic and the famed Newport Mansions, it is a beautiful and scenic walk that everyone can enjoy!  The tours of the Mansions (aka ‘Summer Cottages’ for the wealthy) are fascinating and offer breathtaking views of the Cliff Walk and beyond.

J.Crew Factory is my favorite stop for casual weekend pieces.  I always find myself reaching for a pair of their shorts for weekend trips like Newport or the zoo.  The patterns and colors are always fun and cute while being incredibly comfortable for lots of walking and some possible climbing!

Papaya

During late spring this is my one of my easy wardrobe formula: simple dress, denim jacket, flat shoes for frolicking.  J.Crew Factory is always able to help in those categories, specifically dresses.  This season I’ve probably bought more dresses there than I should admit.  But when each one is better than the last, who can blame me?!  And how could you say no to such a fun and bright dress…

Cinnamon Sweater

IMG_9804 (1)IMG_9787IMG_9782

I am totally obsessed with this cinnamon sweater from J.Crew Factory.  It’s the perfect color for November, especially when paired with other rich hues like this plum or a dark sage.  I happen to love it layered with a reliable chambray, so this week I’m going to be sharing the two ways I styled it for Thanksgiving week!

I knew right away that I had to layer this sweater under this Helene Berman cape I got last year (last seen here).  Capes are great for traveling, since they’re warm, comfortable, and chic all at the same time.  Swap out a pair of boots for some heeled booties and this outfit is ready for even the most discerning grandmother.
