Fall Fabrics

Hello everyone, welcome back!  Lately I have been scoping out the fall fashion scene, so I took a look back into my closet to see what items I always wear during autumn months.  Leather and denim are two staples that I can’t imagine going through October without!  Paired together, they make a chic combination that will transition well from cool August days (with sandals) into colder days with a pair of ankle boots!

Blushing

Blush | The Sol Compass

My unintentional style theme for the month of September so far has been mixing and matching- starting with summer and fall trends and now into professional and casual wear.  I love the contrast between the feminine lace of this long and conservative pencil skirt and the dark denim of a tied chambray shirt.  I find below the knee skirts are often unexpected on early 20somethings, and I think the fun chambray keeps this outfit youthful and unpredictable.

Beat the Heat

Blue and yellow have always seemed like an easy color combination to me.  Together they grace the Massachusetts’ State Flag and make up my hometown’s colors.  This lightweight skirt and sleeveless chambray are perfect for hot August afternoons, with their breezy fabrics and light colors.

Day to Night Dress: Palm Edition

Happy Monday! Today’s post came a bit later than usual, as a result of having a bit too much fun last week and less time working.  I was able to spend an amazing few days in New York City with my sister and spent some time with friends which was much overdue.  It never ceases to amaze me how quickly friendships can slide away during the colder months only to blossom in full force with the spring and summer.  But alas, I’m pretty convinced this dress may be worth the wait.

I first spotted this gorgeous palm dress on the beautiful Jessi of The Darling Detail.  As soon as I saw it I knew I just had to have it as well! Green is such a great summer color in any of its hues, and the palms make for the perfect subtle pattern.  Initially I was reminded of a tropical getaway when I saw it, but after we saw Jurassic World my friend Jake said it looked like a dinosaur was about to jump out at any minute, so naturally I like that reaction best!

This dress is great for so many different occasions, one of my favorite is a quiet Saturday stroll or a trip to the farmers’ market.  Tying a chambray over makes the dress a bit more casual but gives it a great put-together look.

This is a true ‘day to night’ option because I kept all of my jewelry on, and merely switched out my shoes and bag to make a more evening friendly look.  I love a loser fitting dress for nights out; I tend to favor the conservative look overall and it’s always nice to be comfortable and still look cute!

Pinstripe Play Date

IMG_4239

I hope you all had a lovely Easter Weekend!  I had such a wonderful weekend with my brother, sister, and I all together under the same roof we grew up in.  It’s always nice to have the three of us together, and holidays in particular take me back down memory lane to when we were all young and playful.  Nowadays, our sibling “playdates” entail hours at Target and Chipotle trips rather than playgrounds, but we made a quick exception on Saturday for the perfect background for this playful spring outfit!

When I saw these pants at LOFT, I knew I had to have them.  They reminded me of a candy peddler in the 1900s Atlantic City BoardWalk (more accurately, since I wasn’t alive then, Disney’s BoardWalk Hotel).  They’re playful, whimsical, and elegant all at the same time.  They add a classy retro touch to a fun chambray and playful boat shoes, and are absolutely perfect to wear throughout spring!

Americana

IMG_3059

I can’t get enough of anything American (Fourth of July is my favorite holiday, and I come from a pretty patriotic family) and fashion trends are no exception.  Red and blue is one of my favorite color combinations to wear, and I love when I find winter-approved ways to incorporate it into my wardrobe.  Plus, what’s more American than stripes and denim?!

Confession: I had been on the hunt for a red leather jacket since season one of Once Upon A Time (aka over three years ago!) when Emma debuted her signature look.  I was beyond ecstatic when I found this one at Ann Taylor- the moto and burgundy combination was the perfect fit for what I didn’t even know I was looking for!
