Welcome back my friends, I hope you all had a great weekend!  On Saturday B and I headed up to Salem for a little witchcraft to get ourselves in the October spirit! If you’re visiting from Boston, Salem is just a half hour away on the commuter rail (which is much easier than trying to find a parking spot!)

Salem Maritime Site.

Salem Witch Trials Memorial.

Places To Eat.

Howling Wolf Taqueria.

Kuscho Bistro.

Have any of you gone to Salem before?  What are your favorite things to do there?  Let me know in the comment section!  Happy Hauntings!

Hello everyone, happy Friday!  While I was playing softball in high school and college, the ‘groutfit’ was an athlete exclusive faux pas that resulted of an emergency gray sweatpants + gray sweatshirt pairing.  Today, however, I wanted to create a monochromatic ensemble with gray that was understated and chic, not born out of desperation to put on warmer layers during an outside practice!  I added my favorite black booties to keep the ombre effect going, and a burgundy bucket bag for a pop of color.

Outfit Details – Sweater: Banana Republic | Skirt: Banana Republic | Booties: Coach (old, similar here, here, and here) | Bag: Topshop (old, similar here and here) | Lips: Bite Beauty ‘Fig’, Marc Jacobs ‘Pretty Thing’ | Nails: OPI ‘Suzi – The First Lady Of Nails’ | Nails (toes): OPI ‘Barking Up The Wrong Sequoia’

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I hope you all have a great weekend!

Warby Parker Fall Collection

Hey everyone, welcome back!  You may remember in 2016 I gave a long winded speech here of how much I admire Warby Parker and how great it is that I have a platform to share their products. Their new Fall Collection is out, and I knew I had to show it to you all!!  (You can see the rest of the posts here, here, and here).  With such a great variety of eyeglasses and sunglasses styles to choose from, there’s an option for every face shape, style, and aesthetic out there!  I included some of my favorites below, I think the indigo and blush hues would go great with my current fall wardrobe!  What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all have a great day!

Sunglasses Case Giveaway!

Hello everyone, welcome back!  A big congrats to Karla for winning last week’s Starbucks giveaway!  It’s so much fun for me to celebrate The Sol Compass’ third birthday with all of you!

This next giveaway is the product of a great need I have, and B’s unwavering patience.  My sister and I have been hoarding sunglasses in troves over the past two years, and we were recently brainstorming ways we could store them safely and functionally.  Luckily for us, B stepped up to the plate and tried his hand at creating a storage box for us, and the result was this beautiful handmade wooden box with a felt lining, to protect those lenses.  It’s one of the first items Bryan made for the Etsy shop he’s starting and today, I’m giving one away to you!  (Sunglasses not included, sorry ladies).

To Enter:
1) Follow @thesolcompass on Instagram!
2) Follow @thinkwoodthoughts on Instagram!
3) Leave a comment on this blog post when you’ve done both to officially enter!

The giveaway will end on Sunday at Midnight EST, so enter fast!

Thanks for stopping by and for always supporting The Sol Compass!

The Sol Compass turns 3!!

Hello everyone, welcome back!  I can’t believe that today is the third birthday of The Sol Compass!  Well, technically Monday was, but I didn’t post because of the holiday.  I had no idea what this blog would turn out to be when I started it back in 2014.  All I knew was that I wanted a place to document and share the things that I was inspired by.  I thought I would do a lot of food posts, what I was cooking and how I eat seasonally to stretch my dollars.  Or maybe share some places that inspired me in my travels.  Never in my wildest dreams did I ever believe I would have the artistic freedoms of creating content to inspire people or that I would some day get paid to get dressed in the morning.  This endeavor has been an absolute dream come true and I cannot thank you all enough for following along and fueling my passions.  You all create sunshine for me and I will never be able to thank you enough.

In celebration of The Sol Compass’ third birthday, I have three giveaways planned for you this month!  Without a big blogger budget they’re nothing huge but just something small to say thanks for coming along on this journey with me and for allowing me to do this thing that I love so much.

Today’s giveaway is all about the great love of my life… Coffee!  This journal and a $20 Starbucks gift card could be yours in just three easy steps!  The giveaway will run until Sunday, and next Monday (9/11) I’ll announce the winner and the next giveaway!!

To enter the giveaway you just need to follow these three steps!
1) Like The Sol Compass on Facebook!
2) Follow The Sol Compass on Instagram!
3) Leave a comment on this blog post when you’re done!

The winner will be announced in Monday’s post, and also contacted by email!  Good luck, and thank you for following along with The Sol Compass!

Bridging Seasons

Hey everyone, happy Friday!  Today I want to talk about those times of year that are a bit tricky to dress for: transition months.  My tried and true formula for September is to stick with warm weather basics (skirts, open toe shoes, etc) in autumn appropriate hues. I will hold on to every last bit of summer for as long as I can, but this look was a great way to start incorporating some of my new purchases while staying comfortable during the last days of summer.

Outfit Details – Tee: Banana Republic | Jacket: White House Black Market (old, similar here and here) | Skirt: JPR (more colors here!) | Heels: Banana Republic |

Thank you so much for reading!  Have a great weekend!

17 Things You May Not Know About Me

Welcome back my loves!  I can hardly believe it has almost been three years since I first started blogging!  My readers feel like my internet family, hearing from you is the highlight of this job.  One thing I frequently overlook, however, is how many of you are new around these parts.  When I first started blogging I used to mention things about myself in my posts all the time, but after a while it felt repetitive, even though so many of you HAVEN’T been reading this since 2014 (thank God, because then I would have approximately 8 readers, including my mom).  In anticipation of The Sol Compass’ impending birthday, I thought I would share some little known things about myself with all of you.  Since 17 is my favorite number, and the number I wore on my college softball team, it seemed fitting that I would share this number of facts! (Although I suppose that makes it 19…)

  1. I sleep better on the road than I ever sleep in my own bed.  I don’t have trouble falling asleep, just staying asleep.  Honestly I would rather just never have to sleep, it’s one of my least favorite things.
  2. The water I drink is 80% seltzer.
  3. My middle name is Grace, after my great grandmother.  My four year old cousin Millie shares the middle name with me!
  4. My left foot is nearly half a size smaller than my right foot.  That’s why there is a gap near my heel every time I wear pumps!
  5. I hardly ever do my hair in the morning.  I usually let it air dry, and it ends up looking like it does in these photos!
  6. If I could travel for a month with no financial restrictions, I would explore Africa from top to bottom.
  7. The first song I ever identified with is Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run.  I am pretty sure my mom played The Boss ad nauseum while I was in the womb and that I came into this world instantly in love with Bruce Springsteen.  It’s also important to mention that my mother has some *insane* stories about Bruce concerts in the ’80s so… It is hereditary and she is a legend.
  8. I am obsessed with coffee shop culture.  I could talk about it for hours, and on vacation B and I always make sure to explore the local coffee scene.
  9. I usually drink an iced almond milk latte or cold brew in the morning and an iced green tea in the afternoon.  Even in the winter, I rarely drink hot beverages!
  10. I absolutely love plants. Nothing makes me happier than being outside. Especially near plants.
  11. I love food, though this is hardly a little known fact.  Much of my vacations are planned around where I want to eat.
  12. I love mornings and morning people.  Naturally rising with the sun makes me happy every morning, and the rare occasion that I sleep past seven puts me in a terrible mood for the rest of the day.
  13. English Literature and Language is my greatest love.  I probably love every book you SparkNoted in high school and own at least two copies of my favorites.  For most of my life, my dream job has bounced between novelist and fiction editor.
  14. My favorite desserts are fruit based.  Pies, cobblers, shortcake… Etc.
  15. Most people have a hard time believing I am an introvert.  This is because I was raised by two extroverts who had two more extroverted children (my sister Michaela and my brother Kevin).  I can talk to anyone at anytime, but I definitely require quiet and alone time.
  16. In a perfect world, I would adopt five dogs.
  17. I hated every nickname I was given for the first 12+ years of my life.  The two that stuck after that are Quill and Rapunzel, but my dad calls me Catalina Island.

Thank you all so much for stopping by today and for reading The Sol Compass!  I am eternally thankful for every one of you.  I love getting to know you better, so share a fun fact about yourself in the comment section!  Have a wonderful weekend!
